Going Zero-Waste at Home

How you can cut down on the amount of waste that your household produces.

Zero-waste is a movement that challenges us to minimize the amount of waste that we produce.   To cut down on our waste production, we need to rethink what we buy and how we use things.   While this seems like a major lifestyle change, it's important to understand that the zero-waste movement doesn't mean eliminating all household waste completely.   Instead, it's about becoming conscious of the amount of unnecessary waste that you produce and finding creative solutions to address it.   Here are some of the ways that you can reduce the amount of waste that your household produces.
  • Use Reusable Storage Options

    - Many households store leftover food items in disposable zip-lock bags, single-use plastic containers, tin foil, plastic wrap, and so on. Because these storage solutions cannot be reused or recycled, they are a major source of household waste.   Fortunately, there are new solutions that can eliminate this waste.   For instance, many manufacturers now make washable, reusable zip-lock bags.   Additionally, you can store food in Tupperware containers, air-tight jars, and other reusable options.
  • Compost

    - Food waste makes up a significant portion of household waste. However, many leftover food scraps can be repurposed via composting. Composting is the practice of collecting food waste and using it as a nutrient-rich fertilizer for your garden or household plants. Composting can help you avoid throwing away things like eggshells, vegetable peelings, moldy bread, and so on.
  • Buy Sustainable

    - We can also go zero-waste by making an effort to buy sustainable products. This can include things made from recycled materials, all-natural products made without harmful chemicals, things made using renewable energy, and so on.   By supporting companies that are making the environment a priority, we can encourage other major manufacturers to follow suit.
These are some of the suggestions that you should try to be a zero-waste household.   Do you need assistance with your mail delivery or custom courier needs this new year?   Then turn to the experts at MDS, Inc.   Located in Southern California, we're your custom courier & mail delivery service experts for all your  mail and delivery  needs in the greater Los Angeles, Long Beach, Irvine, Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Orange County.  Contact us  for more information today.
