Halloween Safety Tips for Your Children

Halloween can be a scary time in more ways than one; make sure you avoid any dangers with these Halloween safety tips.

With Halloween right around the corner, your kids are probably jumping off the walls!   However, don't let all the excitement make you forget about your children's safety this Halloween.   Make sure your little trick-or-treaters have a truly happy Halloween with these easy safety tips. Costume Safety One of the easiest ways to keep your child safe is to take Halloween costume safety precautions.   For example, choosing a costume made of non-flammable material could save them in case they get a little too close to your neighbor's jack-o-lantern.   Other things to look out for is the length of your child's costume and whether or not the costume calls for a face mask.   Floor length costumes can increase your child's chances of falling, and a mask can make it difficult for your child to see.   It's probably safer to avoid costumes with these elements. Trick-or-Treating Safety The most important trick-or-treating safety tip is making sure your kid doesn't go out alone.   Accompany younger kids as they go door to door, and make sure older kids go out with a group of friends you know and trust.   You should also make sure your child understands traffic dangers and knows not to suddenly dart into the street.   You should also review €œstranger danger € warnings with your child and remind him or her to never enter someone's home, and to never accept rides without first getting your approval.   Finally, even if your child doesn't have their own phone, make sure they carry one when they're out this Halloween.   This will allow them to check in with you and will let them contact emergency services if necessary. Candy Safety Ask your children not to eat any of their candy until they get home.   Once they do return from trick-or-treating, make sure you examine their candy haul.   Discard any unwrapped, unlabeled, or homemade treats.  If your child has allergies, make sure you weed out any candies that might pose a danger to them.   Finally, do your best to limit your kid's candy consumption.   Though this may be difficult, do your best to avoid tummy aches.
