- Approximately 2,550 new cases of male breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2018.

- After lung cancer, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among women in the U.S.
- While the number of deaths caused by breast cancer has decreased since 1989, an estimated 40,920 American women will die as a result of breast cancer this year alone.
Increased Risk
- A woman's risk of developing breast cancer nearly doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has also been diagnosed.
- A woman's risk of developing breast cancer increases as she ages. This is why women aged 45 and older are highly advised by medical professionals to start regular screening for the disease.
Screening and Treatment
- Early detection is considered the most powerful tool in the fight against breast cancer. The most popular screening method is mammograms, but doctors can also use MRI technology and clinical breast exams (CBE) to screen for breast cancer.
