A postal year in review!
As the new year begins, we reflect on the years passed, and a lot has happened when it comes to postal services in 2015! Here's our shortlist for the most interesting postal stories of 2015.
New Rides.
In 2015 it was decided that USPS mail trucks, also known as long-life vehicle (LLV) delivery trucks, would be on their way out soon. Proposals have been in the works to create a new postal vehicle which will make its debut in 2017.
Amazon Makes Its Presence Known.
Amazon was all the rage in the postal world in 2015. Amazon has been making big moves in the past year. They have announced a release of thousands of new delivery trucks to add to their shipping empire, and have even been reported to be leasing cargo planes, which would increase their shipping power.
Hard Copy Makes a Comeback.
Don't rule out print just yet. With modern technology, it was expected that everything from movies to marketing would soon turn digital. But, in 2015, print books have remained a staple for readers and companies began to revive their catalogs. Expect more mailers in the coming year.
Postage Abroad.
The USPS isn't the only national postal service struggling. Nations all over the world have created new plans on how to distribute the mail. New Zealand reduced its urban mail delivery to 3 days a week, Japan has privatized its post, and Italy has sold nearly half of their postal stake. The US, however, has held off on making any changes to its postal practices.
Warming Up to Cuba.
Political relations with Cuba are improving! In fact, 2015 became the year that mail delivery between the two countries resumed.
Fuel Prices.
Overall, fuel prices decreased in 2015. But lower fuel costs did not encourage UPS and FedEx to lower their prices. Instead, they increased their fuel surcharges and made waves with their customers.
