With the New Year comes new laws. There are several new laws coming your way in 2017. From transportation to employment to recreation, there are many diverse laws on the books in California. Check out what you need to know about these laws that take effect in the New Year.
Minimum Wage.
You can expect to see an increase in the minimum wage in California in the coming year. The wage increases by $.50 to $10.50 an hour for businesses with more than 26 employees. The minimum wage increase will eventually increase to $15 an hour by 2022.
Cellphone Use.
In the coming year, a new law imposes stricter rules when it comes to cellphone use while driving. While texting while driving is already illegal, a new law states that all cellphone and wireless electronic device usage is prohibited while you're behind the wheel unless it's mounted to the dashboard or windshield. Additionally, drivers are not allowed to use the device while driving unless a function can be carried out with a single tap or swipe.
Motorcyclist Safety.
A new law helps to educate motorcyclists, drivers, and passengers about how to increase safety when on the road, specifically when it comes to lane splitting where motorcyclists drive in the same lane as other vehicles. That way all parties are safer while on the road.
