Safety Precautions for Online Shopping

Employ these strategies to stay safe as you shop online.

Are you planning on doing a lot of your holiday shopping online?   If so, then it's important that you safeguard your financial information from cyber criminals.   Not sure what you should do to protect yourself?   Here are some safety tips to help you shop online this holiday season. 1) Stay on Trusted Websites This holiday season is not the time to experiment with a new online vendor or retail website you've never heard of before.   Instead, stay on websites that you know and have used in the past.   Additionally, make sure that you inspect every website you are on before you check out.   Some particularly savvy criminals actually make fake websites for real retail companies in order to steal the credit card information of unsuspecting shoppers. 2) Protect Your Personal Information Any website that prompts you to enter personal information unrelated to your purchase is probably not legitimate.   For instance, if a website asks you for your social security number or date of birth, then you should get off the site immediately.   The only information a retailer should ever request from you is your billing, shipping, and payment information and, on occasion, your email address and phone number. 3) Safeguard Your Computer Finally, you can protect your financial information by installing good anti-virus software on your computer.   This software will protect your computer and the sensitive information on it from viruses or malware.   Additionally, some software can also warn you if you are on a sketchy site or if a website isn't secure.
