Learn how you can keep your stress levels at a minimum.
April is National Stress Awareness Month, a month-long campaign that strives to generate awareness of the damaging effects of stress on our mental, emotional, and physical health. In honor of this month, you should make a conscious effort to keep your stress levels under control. Try out some of these suggestions to help you combat your stress.
Avoid Your Stressors
You have enough going on in your life and there's no need to seek out more stress. This is why you should do your best to avoid the people or situations that cause you stress. However, this is easier said than done. Oftentimes, there's nothing you can do to avoid your stressors. If this is the case for you, just make sure you take frequent breaks to help you better handle the situation. If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, step away and take a moment to breathe. Taking some time to calm yourself down is usually enough to help you feel more in control of the situation.
Learn How De-Stress
It's also important that you make the time to engage in the activities that help you de-stress. For instance, many people find that vigorous exercise helps them blow off some steam and distracts them from the things that stress them out. However, other people find that reading, watching tv, or simply engaging in their favorite hobbies is the best way for them to relax. Regardless of what works for you, just make sure that you set aside time to do these relaxing activities to keep your stress levels at a manageable level.
Say €œNo €
Many people actually manufacture their own stress. They want to control every little aspect of their lives and end up stretching themselves too thin. This is especially true for people with stereotypical €œtype A € personalities. However, it's important to recognize that you cannot possibly control everything. Learn how to say €œno, € and instead focus your efforts on the things that are most important to you. Cutting out unnecessary stress will do wonders for your health and well-being.
