Getting ready for college is an exciting time. From choosing your classes to finding out who your roommate will be, it's easy to get swept up in it all. When you're packing, essential items such as bedding, toiletries, and electronics will be the first on your list. However, make sure that you don't forget little, must-have items for your year away from home. Remember these commonly overlooked items when you're getting ready to leave for university.
Cleaning Supplies
While you might have grand plans for a spotless, Instagram-ready dorm room, the truth is your bedroom will get pretty messy. Make sure that you have the necessary supplies to get your room back in order. Anti-bacterial wipes, paper towels, glass cleaner, and laundry detergent are just a few of the things you should keep on hand. Air freshener and even a small vacuum are other items you might want to consider bringing with you.
Medicine
In the close quarters of college housing, the common cold spreads like a plague. Avoid dragging yourself out of bed and stumbling to the nearest pharmacy by having medication already stocked. Pack essentials such as cough drops, cold medicine, and aspirin. You might also want to consider packing vitamins as a preventative measure.
Power Strips and Extension Cords
When you do move into your new dorm or apartment, you'll probably realize that there aren't nearly enough outlets to support all your electronic devices. Be prepared for this by bringing power strips and extension cords with you. Just make sure to read the warnings on your power strip. Having too many high-power items plugged into a power strip can be a fire hazard.
Portable Sewing Kit
Even if you've never sewed anything before, having a mini-sewing kit can be really helpful. At the very least, you might be able to find someone who can help repair your favorite hoodie. You never know, so might as well be prepared.
