What to Do If Your Package is Stolen from Your Doorstep

Here are some of the steps you should take in the event that your packages get stolen.

When you order online, this usually means that your packages sit on your doorstep until you return home. Unfortunately, leaving packages by your door leaves them at risk for theft. In fact, nearly a third of online shoppers have had packages stolen right off their doorsteps. Should this ever happen to you, here are some of the steps that you should take to receive reimbursement or replacement.
  • Track Your Package
If you suspect that your package was stolen, you should check your tracking information to see if the item's delivery was confirmed. Usually, you will be able to find out where your package was last registered or the time and date on which it was actually delivered to your home.
  • Check with Your Neighbors
If you know your package was delivered, check with your neighbors. There's a chance that one of them might have picked up your package for safe keeping.
  • Contact the Retailer
If it does turn out that your package has been stolen, then you need to contact the retailer who sold you the item. Different companies will have different policies, but oftentimes the company will issue a refund or a replacement item.
  • File a Claim with the Shipping Company
If the retailer will not offer you reimbursement or replacement, then you can file a claim with the company that delivered your package. Almost every major shipping company has a claims section online or in-store.
  • Check Your Credit Card for Purchase Protection
Some credit cards offer purchase protection that will reimburse you for stolen items purchased entirely with your card. Check with your credit card company to see if you qualify and to begin the claims process. Keep in mind that this coverage is limited. You usually have to inform your credit card company within a certain time frame and reimbursement might be denied for high-value purchases.
  • Claims for High-Value Items with Homeowners Insurance
Most homeowners and renters insurance policies offer coverage for stolen packages. However, filing a claim with your insurance really isn't worth it unless the value of your purchases far exceeds the cost of your deductible. These are some of the steps that you can take in the event that a package is stolen from your doorstep.   Looking for a courier service that y0u can trust?  Then turn to the experts at MDS, Inc.    Located in Southern California, we're your mail delivery & custom courier service experts for all your  mail and delivery  needs in  Los Angeles, Long Beach, Irvine, and Orange County.    Contact  us  for more information today.
